Pronunciation Changes
Over time, Mwanithra experienced pronunciation changes. Given there is not a set history (yet!) for Angkelar, it is difficult to suggested a definitive timeline for when these changes occurred. However, in the future, such a timeline might exist.
For now, and for the sake of ease, all words are assumed to be “Modern Mwanithra,” meaning after the below sound changes have occurred in order. In the future, I may add a more definitive timeline, which will allow for a theoretical “Middle Mwanithra” and other variations.
Summary Changes
- Loss of /h/ at the beginning of a syllable ahead of /i/ vowels, unless the /h/ is the first syllable
- Loss of unstressed vowels ahead of approximates when following a two-consonant cluster
- Double /i/ + /i/ vowels consolidate into a single /i/
- Diphthongization of all vowels ahead of /i/
- Loss of /ɛi/ diphthong as it assimilated into /ei/
